About Spotify
Spotify’s catalog includes over 70 million songs, as well as audiobooks, comedy, radio plays, podcasts, poetry readings, and lectures. It’s a wonderful collection, and we’re pleased to see that it contains Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in its full (as part of the HistorySpeaks podcast). In reality, Spotify offers a variety of non-music extras, like The Joe Budden Podcast and select Hulu Originals soundtracks. These supplements supplement LiveXLive’s DJs and music history channels, as well as Tidal-style, in-depth music editorials and unique films. Having said that, Spotify doesn’t feature a lot of music videos or concert videos. YouTube Music is the clear winner in this category.
When you click an artist’s name, you’ll see more songs by that artist as well as an About tab with the artist’s biography, images, and connections to associated Spotify sites. We spent a lot of time in testing jumping from Alicia Keys to Isaac Hayes to Booker T. and The M.G.’s, reading bios and sampling music. LiveXLive’s DNA station, on the other hand, does a better job of fleshing out artist biographies through interviews and playing music that affected the musicians’ style.
You may create playlists from any of the music or albums in Spotify’s extensive collection. Spotify broadcasts music from your playlists with gapless playback by default. Spotify also allows you to crossfade tracks and even vary the amount of seconds (1-12) between fades. We don’t typically utilize it, but DJs (or want tobe DJs) could find it intriguing.
If you want to create a playlist with a friend, enable the collaborative playlist option to allow others to edit your playlist. Group Session, a paid feature, expands on that concept. It allows you and other Spotify Premium customers to listen to the same material on your own devices at the same time—and control the content playing. Group Session may accommodate two to five individuals, and you can invite friends and family to relax by sending them a link.
